Ever have one of those days where your dog kicks the shit right before you pick it up? It's not so bad unless it happens right in front of the entrance to the dog park, and the shit the dog kicked lands all over the street... and yes, the DPG crew is there to witness it. We've all been embarrassed by our dogs but have you noticed how dogs can get embarrassed too? Sometimes I bend down to wipe my dog's eye mucus and she'll pull away from me because she doesn't want the other dogs in the park to see this display. But if we're home she'll let me clean everything from her ears to her tail without a fuss. Yesterday she did something she's never done before and I could tell that it was even taboo in the doggy world. I was lying down on my bed with my laptop when I noticed Hailey suddenly get up and cower into the corner. With her tail between her legs and the saddest puppy dog eyes I knew something was wrong... anyone who knows my Australian Cattle Dog can vouch that she doesn't cower for anything. Before I could get up to survey the problem I realized it was sitting a foot away from me... on my bed. Apparently she dropped a doodoo ball on my bed while she was shifting around. Seriously! It wasn't soft or sickly, it was a solid ball that could have easily been mistaken for a dark chocolate truffle. After I got rid of the evidence I tried consoling the pathetic mass of fur laying on the floor but to no avail. She didn't even want to be seen. I'm guessing dogs have their own code of manners, and if the other dogs at the park knew this they'd definitely make fun of her.
I'm wondering what other things embarrass the DPG dogs... feel free to chime in with your own stories.

Weekend Warriors
After a late night last night, I finally got enough steam to head over to the Dog Park this morning/afternoon with Achilles. He literally almost dragged me there he was so excited to go.
On the weekends, the Park is pretty empty during the day. I think it's equally as empty at night, but there are usually more DPGers during the evening, so it seems more full then. For whatever reason, the people that tend to come on the weekends are either very strange or seem to be generally clueless about how a dog park operates.
Example 1:
When I arrived at the park today, there was a family of four, who had decided to bring lunch into the park and eat it at one of the tables. I'm no rocket scientist, but perhaps bringing food into the park isn't the best idea with a bunch of hungry animals. Today, the family was spared doggie wrath, mainly because there were very few dogs there, but I've definitely seen people bring food in that they don't get to finish.
Example 2:
Latino guy wearing short shorts brings his dog in a few minutes after I sit down. He then proceeds to parade his dog around the park on-leash while all the other dogs are trying to play with his dog and his dog is trying to play. Dude! Let your dog off the leash. It's a dog park.

Welcome to DPG WorldWide
So, I've been thinking about this for awhile. A blog dedicated to the daily life of DogParkers. DPG stands for Dog Park Gangstas, by the way. Although I'm not sure of the exact origin of the name, it comes mainly from the fact that there are a few people at the Park who basically run shit. This may sound ridiculous considering it's a public park that anyone can go to, but it's true.
At about 6:30 every night the DPG assembles for its nightly meeting and festivities. Pretty much, it's a phenomenal way to unwind from a hard day's work, or in the case of Musashi, a hard day of facebooking, words with friends, Beluga-ing, twatting, tweeting, event planning, and whatever else she does.
Everyone hangs out, talks shit, and makes fun of all the weirdos that come in to the dog park, or in the case of a lot of the weirdos, stand outside the dog park and watch what happens inside while the dogs bark at them for being weird.
A word about the names... In order to retain some semblance of dignity and anonymity throughout this blog's evolution, all posts will be authored in the name of the owner's dog. My dog, for example is named Achilles, so that's what I will be posting under. There are going to be a few authors on here, each with different perspectives on the park and its goings on which should provide a good amount of variety and humor. Achilles is the black and white Border Collie, Basenji Mix on the right in the photo below.
Okay. That's all for now. Enjoy!
Oh, and the video attached is of the newest member of the DPG, Oji. He's a "miniature" Shiba Inu. Personally, I hope the little guy grows to be 50 lbs, but I don't think his owner would be too happy about that. I hope soon we have a video of Oji going insane. For a puppy, he's pretty much a baller and attacks all the bigger dogs and doesn't take any shit from anyone. This is his owner trying to get him to go on my skateboard. He's not such a fan!
